Top 3 reasons to consider the RV lifestyle

Are you contemplating making the switch to full-time RV life?

As a couple who has traveled the US in our motorhome for the past few years while still working full time, we can confidently say that the nomadic lifestyle offers a multitude of benefits. From the freedom to explore new places to the sense of community that comes with being part of the RVing community, there are countless reasons why living in an RV can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

This lifestyle used to be predominantly geared towards retirees for full time and families for part time weekend camping trips. But with the ability to work remote now, this has transformed the industry and opened up the possibility of full-time travel to more people.

In this blog post, we’re sharing our top 3 reasons why you should consider full-time RV life.

1. Freedom to explore

One of the most obvious benefits of living in an RV is the freedom it provides. When you live in a traditional house or apartment, you are tied down to a specific location. You can go on vacations from time to time, but it gets costly to travel frequently while also having a mortgage or rent to pay. When you live in an RV, your home can go wherever you go. You can travel to new places, experience new cultures, and see new sights all while having the comforts of home with you the entire time.

In this past 2 years living in our RV, we have visited 36 states, explored 10 national parks, driven 20,000+ miles, and made countless memories along the way. And we have no plans of slowing down.

2. More affordable and sustainable

But the benefits of living in an RV go beyond just the freedom to travel. Living in an RV can also be a more affordable and sustainable option than living in a traditional home. Although RVs are a depreciating asset, you can buy an RV for much less than what a house costs, and save money on things like property taxes for a house, lawn care, etc.

Also, RVs are typically smaller than traditional homes or apartments, which means they require less energy to heat and cool. They also tend to be more efficient in terms of water usage and waste disposal. However, you will end up paying a lot more in fuel costs especially if you change locations often.

One of the aspects we love about RV life is that it forces you to live a more simple and intentional life. We prioritize experiences over things since we don’t have as much space inside the RV. Instead of buying furniture to fill up the corner of a room we never used in our house, we spend our time and money on things like exploring national parks.

3. Become part of the RV community

Additionally, RV living can be a great way to connect with others who share your love of travel and adventure. There is a strong sense of community among RVers, and you are likely to make friends and connections wherever you go. Whether you're attending a campground potluck or gathering around a campfire, there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people and share stories of life on the road.

We’ve made so many new friends while traveling around the US. We’ve been amazed at how friendly everyone is in this community and always willing to help out a fellow RVer. It can be a tough adjustment at first to not see your friends and family as often, but we’ve found a great community to help support us through the transition.

So is this lifestyle for you?

Of course, living in an RV does require some adjustment and this lifestyle has its own challenges. RV parks are getting more crowded and expensive due to a surge in demand, RVs require more maintenance, personal space inside the RV is limited, and you will need to learn to live with less stuff than you might be used to. You will also need to be comfortable with the idea of being in close quarters with your partner or family members for extended periods of time.

But for those who are willing to embrace the nomad lifestyle, the benefits are truly unparalleled. Whether you are a retiree looking to travel the country, a digital nomad seeking a more flexible way of living, or a young family hoping to bond over new experiences, there is an RV lifestyle that can work for you.

If you're ready to hit the road and start living a life of adventure, we encourage you to consider the many benefits of RV living. With the right mindset and a willingness to embrace new experiences, you may just find that this lifestyle is exactly what you've been looking for all along.
